BEIJING

We arrived in Beijing after crossing Outer Mongolia and the Gobi desert and then passing through the Great Wall into China. We checked into a YHA and went exploring this wonderful and vast city. Amongst the places seen were:

•  Tiananmen Square
•  Tiantian Park
•  Various Hutongs around the city (small streets / alleyways)
•  Forbidden City
•  Lama Temple
•  Confucian Temple
•  Great Wall of China at Simatai
•  Went to see Chairman Mao (in his Mausoleum)
•  Went shopping and generally exploring - great city

Alas due to SARS outbreak and illness in the family I was forced to temporarily return home. I would continue my travels a couple of months later.
